Y+

Y+

Y+ was an artist collective based in Scarborough, founded by Danièle Dennis, Daniel Griffin Hunt, Dorica Manuel and Tiffany Schofield. The collective began working together in 2011 after meeting in the studio arts program at the University of Toronto Scarborough.

From 2015 to 2018, the collective operated Y+ contemporary, an artist-run studio and storefront gallery located at 1345 Morningside Avenue, Unit 15 in Scarborough. During that time, the collective hosted over 30 projects in the space, including exhibitions by emerging artists and curators, workshops, talks, film screenings, and performances.

Y+ also initiated a series of peer-mentorship programs, focused on providing access to professional development opportunities in Scarborough. This included an annual youth residency program for local high school students; group critique sessions for artists to share and receive feedback on their work; and a writing mentorship program that commissioned texts from emerging art writers.
